Reverse Engineering in the USA
Reverse engineering, also called back engineering, is the process by which a man-made object is deconstructed to reveal its designs, architecture, or to extract knowledge from the object; similar to scientific research, the only difference being that scientific research is about a natural phenomenon reverse engineering is the process to recreate or reproduce an already manufactured product for different objectives. These objective vary, as there are a number of reasons to understand the product, either to make the product robust or to know its weakness and exploit it. Reverse engineering is majorly done in software and machines. Some software does not come with original documentation or the documents are misplaced, to find the source code of these documents then reverse engineering used. Some software programmers use reverse engineering to know the loose ends in the program code to mitigate it and make the software stronger, while some find the loose ends to exploit it. In reverse engineering of machines, computer-aided design software is used to recreate the existing physical product to understand its working or know its important design aspects. The product CAD design helps help further to make the 3D model of the part/product. With the help of these technologies, one can create his own product by assessing his competitor’s product dynamics and bring an enhanced product in the market.3D illustrations services and developing e-learning modules. Services in 2D computer graphics are benefited by movies, simulations and animated logos, games, e-learning, product demos, and website banners etc.

Structural analysis is the determination of the effects of loads on physical structures and their components. Structures subject to this type of analysis include all that must withstand loads, such as buildings, bridges, vehicles, furniture, attire, soil strata, prostheses, and biological tissue. It is also known as finding out internal forces (axial force, shear force, moment), stress, strain, deflection etc in a structure under applied load conditions.a structure will be adequately lower than the permissible limits, and failure of structural will not occur. The aim of structural analysis is to design a structure that has the proper strength, rigidity, and safety.
Structural Analysis in the USA |
Deformations in a structure can be either elastic that is totally recoverable, or inelastic that is permanent. Structural analysis assists in the design of structures that meet their functional requirements are economical and attractive. Structural analysis integrates the disciplines of mechanics, dynamics, and failure theories to compute the internal forces and stresses on the structures to be designed.
The analysis is done, once visualizing the structural behavior under different types of loading. The structure should be capable to survive the loading minus any excessive deformation and internal stresses more than resisting capacity of elements. Methods used for structural analysis depends on the type of element under study. Trusses are axial elements (resisting axial forces), which can be analyzed using the method of joints, and method of sections.
The flexural elements like beam resist only bending moment, analyzed using the equilibrium conditions, along with compatibility equations. The degree of freedom of joints and the degree of a redundancy of structural components need to be taken for analysis. Joints in a beam undergo vertical and horizontal translation along with rotation. These are termed as the degree of freedom. Redundant members are additional members existing in the structure, apart from members required to keep structure stable. They make a structure statically indeterminate.
The focus is mainly on the static indeterminacy, as they directly govern the strength criteria in design. Therefore, the analysis of structures is classified into two categories namely statically determinate, and indeterminate analysis. Statically determinate structures like the simply supported beam, a cantilever beam can be analyzed with conditions of equilibrium ( Σ H =0; Σ V =0; Σ M =0). Statically indeterminate structures like fixed beam should be analyzed using compatibility equations along with equilibrium conditions. Methods used in the analysis are energy, force, and stiffness based methods. The first method depends on strain energy theorems. Force-based methods are based on flexibility (virtual work method). Stiffness based methods are based on stiffness coefficients of joints and connected members.
Shop Drawings Preparation in the USA
Shop Drawings in accordance with the project standards and help the contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturers during construction.
Shop Drawings include Penetration Drawings, Sleeve Drawings, Insert Layout Drawings and Spool Drawings.
The exact sleeves, penetration & hanger locations from BIM models and the drawings can be downloaded directly into GPS instruments at the site for making
a fast & accurate layout. Shop drawings include all information for the engineers and architects as per the approved submittals, design drawings and other specifications. A set of workshop drawings include steel specification details, dimensional and welding information allowing the fabrication of components. It may include sub-assembly and assembly information, site layout and component installation.
Shop drawings are typically prepared for subcontractors and steel fabricators who fabricate components in their workshop and then install onsite.
The workshop draws contains information sourced from both the architectural and structural engineering drawings. Drawing documents from both disciplines
will have been through an iterative design process, and only once they’ve been finalised and stamped ‘Issued For Construction’ (IFC) will they be
used for development of downstream shop drawings.
Shop drawings contain more detailed information about each component and need to include all manufacturing details. This is important on the workshop floor as they’re usually not read in conjunction with the architectural or engineering documents. Having everything needed for fabrication included on the drawing also makes it easier for the architect and engineer to review prior to manufacturing.
Fabrication drawings are a specific type of drawing. used by the Fabrication Industry to produce steel members. The drawings will specify steel section sizes, length, hole locations etc. Further, they will contain the information for the steel erectors to assemble the steel.
Fabrication Drawings are usually used for 1 off’s or per job/project bases (compared to Manufacturing Drawings).
They are mainly used in:
Structural Steel
Sheet Metal
Architectural Steelwork
Ballustrading/Handrails
Stairs
The fabrication drawing should clearly describe in notes or in referenced documents the heat treatment and stress relieving requirements prior to, during and following the completion of the fabrication processes.
The dimensions and relevant linear and geometric tolerances should be indicated. A fabrication drawing sometimes only includes the fabrication details, the final machining details are then shown on a separate drawing.
It is equally acceptable to show all manufacturing information on one drawing. The items used to make up the fabrication will be identified with leader lines to balloons which include the item reference number linking to the parts list.
The listed items on a fabrication drawing do not identify items which can be disassembled, as on assembly and arrangement drawings. The numbering system should reflect this difference. Methods of numbering items on fabrication drawings
include using lower case alphabet letters e.g a,b,c or optionally as subunits of the fabrication item number e.g 1/1, 1/2 1/3 ... or 1/a, 1/b, 1/c...
Revit Modeling in USA |
Revit are widely used CAD software to create 2D drawings such as floor plans, levels, details, etc.; 3D models and objects; construction documents and rendered images. Revit is used to create geometry that is equipped with real-life information, hence the term building information modelling, or BIM. Revit is building information modeling software for architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, designers and contractors. The software allows users to design a building and structure and its components in 3D, annotate the model with 2D drafting elements, and access building information from the building model's database. Revit is 4D BIM capable with tools to plan and track various stages in the building's lifecycle, from concept to construction and later maintenance and/or demolition.
The Revit work environment allows users to manipulate whole buildings or assemblies (in the project environment) or individual 3D shapes (in the family editor environment). Modeling tools can be used with pre-made solid objects or imported geometric models. However, Revit is not a NURBS modeller and also lacks the ability to manipulate an object's individual polygons except on some specific object types such as roofs, slabs and terrain or in the massing environment.
There are many categories of objects ('families' in Revit terminology), which divide into three groups:
System Families, such as walls, floors, roofs and ceilings which are built inside a project
Loadable Families / Components, which are built with primitives (extrusions, sweeps, etc.) separately from the project and loaded into a project for use.
In-Place Families, which are built in-situ within a project with the same toolset as loadable components.
